ARTIST RESIDENCY

Long before the Multidisciplinary Arts Program was coined, and even before the Compound 501(c)3 was officially formed, the physical and social DNA of the Compound was defined by its artist-residents. Between 2010 and 2017, the Compound, in its entirety, was an art project, authored by the rotating group of artists who called the space home. Though we have evolved into much more than a communal living experiment, we still want the shape of the Compound to formed and reformed by new artists keen on innovation.

When innovative collaboration meets transformation of environment, the Compound’s artist residency program will cultivate impactful responses to themes rooted in the sociopolitical concerns of our space. In consideration of Baltimore’s evolving sociopolitical and ecological conditions, this program invites artists to challenge, reimagine, and activate space through material experimentation, dialogue, urban development and community exchange. Residents will be given an apartment and studio space to refine their practice in a communal environment, opportunities to intervene with the material spaces of the Compound, and options to share their work with the community.
